The Alexander Technique and the performing arts

Alexander himself was a Shakespearean actor, and the Alexander Technique has always been used by actors, dancers, musicians and singers to improve performance. Many music and drama colleges employ Alexander teachers to give lessons to all their students.

Violin playing and the Alexander Technique

Since the Alexander Technique is about how you act - how you use yourself - it is applicable to all actions, including the most challenging.

In any performance we can unconsciously restrict ourselves by our own physical and mental habits. Learning to reduce the grip our habitual selves and promote our ability to act in new ways opens the possibility of higher performance.
